A
s with most volunteer organizations, you have probably noticed
the same faces season after season doing things around the sporting events.
Every job and errand at the Elvaton Recreation Association is performed by
a volunteer, from Coordinating Leagues to coaching, running the snack stand
and maintaining the fields.

While we specifically ask for your help in the snack stand, there are many,
many other ways for you to contribute. All revenue collected is spent entirely
on our youth recreational programs. There are no administrative salaries or
overhead not directly associated with the fields, facilities and equipment
used for our programs.

Please consider volunteering in some way each year. Many of us participate
in more than one sport every year. Think of the difference you would make by
helping just once annually. For example you can coach, assist, handle uniforms,
create Schedules, work in the Snack Stand, help with Field Maintenance, just to
name a few.

Also you should attend the Monthly Board Meetings,
always held on the second Tuesday of each month.

Donald C. Gardner Remembered
1922-2003

Elvaton Recreation Association would like to share with everyone his many accomplishments and contributions to the Association - for which we will all be forever thankful.

Mr. Gardner was a loving husband, father of nine children, grandfather to 27 grandchildren, and great-grandfather to 11 great-grandchildren. Over the years, Mr. Gardner provided from 10 hours a week to over 80 hours a week during peak growth times of our Association. You could safely bet that he contributed 20,000 hours in his 40 year association with our Children.

Mr. Gardner began his volunteer work with the youth of Elvaton and surrounding communities almost 50 years ago with his help in organizing the Pasadena Athletic Club. After a few years the group disbanded and he was one of the founding organizers of the Elvaton Recreation Association. He was active with his children in these programs for over 15 years, managing and coaching youth baseball teams, conducting registration of players, conducting fund raisers, and setting up and maintaining fields. As his children became young adults, Mr. Gardner spent another 15 years conducting clinics to assist in training coaches, leading the fight to establish a Recreation Park in Elvaton, assisting in the development of the Park, and assisting in the construction and maintenance of Park Building and facilities. Once his Grandchildren arrived at Elvaton, Mr. Gardner continued to support the Association for another 20 years by providing building and park maintenance (grass cutting, park cleanup, graffiti removal, etc.), athletic equipment organizer, and park security (lock/unlock park gate).

There wasn't a position to be held or a job to be done that Mr. Gardner didn't accept and complete without complaint. Throughout his years associated with Elvaton he held every position from President to Assistant Soccer Commissioner. Donald Gardner's contributions to our children's welfare cannot be measured and should be remembered for many years to come as we continue to reap the benefits of his tireless work throughout his lifetime
