ACTIVITIES PAST, PRESENT, AND FUTURE
ELVATON RECREATION ASSOCIATION
The ELVATON RECREATION ASSOCIATION was officially
incorporated in 1977, but had operated as an informal group since the
late 1950's. The group was an outgrowth of the now defunct Pasadena
Athletic Club. The main objective of the organization has been to operate
organized sports programs for the youth (boys and girls age 5 - 18). For many
years the organization organized and ran only Baseball and Softball
Programs. However, approximately 15 years ago a Soccer Program was
established. In 1998, the organization began a Basketball Program. In 2007,
a Girl's Lacrosse program was introduced.
The organization always strives to meet four goals: 1) That the
children have fun; 2) That they learn sportsmanship; 3) That they
learn teamwork; and 4) That they learn how to play the sport they are
participating. Since the inception of the program, all children meeting
the above stated age requirement have been eligible to participate
regardless of race, sex, religious preference, or national origin.
Additionally, no children are denied the chance to participate because
of financial reasons.
In 1977 there were approximately 65 children (5 teams) enrolled in
our Baseball Program; in 1984, there were 160 children (12 teams) in
our Baseball and Softball Programs; in 1999 there were 336
(27 teams) in Baseball/Softball, 212 (8 teams) in Soccer, and 100
(8) teams in Basketball.
In 2008 there was over 1300 children enrolled in our programs:
Spring: Baseball 320 (28 teams);Softball 70 (5 teams);
Girls Lacrosse 200 (14 teams);
Fall: Soccer 400 (30 teams); Softball 60 (4 teams)
Winter: Basketball 400 (38 teams).
In 1980, the organization assumed the responsibility for
providing maintenance of the county owned recreation area in the
community - The Elvaton Park. This park was built in 1976
and since that time the number of children participating in our
programs has steadily increased. The park originally had 3 Baseball/
Softball Fields. Later we added two Clinic size Baseball fields in
the outfield area of one of the existing fields. The organization in
1980 constructed a storage building in the park and over the years
has enlarged the facility and has made major improvements to it.
The building built largely by volunteers is fully functional with
handicapped accessible restrooms.
In 1998, as a result of the construction of the East-West Boulevard,
the Elvaton Park underwent a major rehabilitation - the Park now has
5 Ball Fields and a Regulation Size Soccer Field which has Baseball Backstops
and benches on each of the four corners to accommodate our Clinic Baseball
Program. Additionally a new Playground was constructed, the Tennis
Courts were repaved, and the Parking Lot was enlarged.
The managers, coaches, program commissioners, and officers
of the ELVATON RECREATION ASSOCIATION are all volunteers, there
are no paid employees in the organization. The success of our
programs depends on the cooperation and participation of all
the parents, guardians, grandparents, and friends of the
Organization. The Organization meets on the the second Tuesday
of each month at the Building in the ELVATON PARK on Dogwood Road.
The meetings begin at 7 PM during the Fall, Winter, and Spring months
and at 7:30 PM in the Summer months. All are encouraged and
welcome to attend.
The ELVATON RECREATION ASSOCIATION envisions a bright future in
the New Millennium and will strive to continue operating, improving,
and expanding our Recreational and Athletic Programs for the Youth
of the surrounding communities.
